Blockchain Centre Organized The First “Play to Earn” Game Development Hackathon in the Baltic Region

On November 26-28, Vilnius Tech Park hosted the first-ever Play to Earn (PTE) game development hackathon in the Baltic region. Participants gathered from all around the world, and 13 teams competed to create the best PTE game concept in 48hours. All ideas generated during the hackathon had to utilize the Polygon network & NFTs as part of the core gameplay mechanic. During the event, 3 teams won exclusive organizer and sponsor prizes. In addition, 7 out of 13 participating teams shared the opportunity to receive up to $350,000 as well as €120,000 worth of services for the future development of their project.

The “Blockchain: Play & Gain” event was organized by the Blockchain Centre and Animoca Brands together with their partners – Super How? and Polygon. Following the massive success of the event, and a large number of attendees, The CEO of Blockchain Centre, Tadas Maurukas, had this to say:

“I am glad there is no shortage of talented people that can flesh out complex game ideas and concepts in such a short amount of time. Blockchain: Play & Gain hackathon made it obvious that these events are necessary to bring awareness and innovation to the gaming world. The blockchain and NFT application in gaming is still a new concept, thus we need people to look at it from different angles. And there is no better medium for that than a time-sensitive hackathon.

Apart from the massive turnout, “Blockchain: Play & Gain” hackathon garnered the attention and participation of world-renowned blockchain and NFT technology experts. They shared their knowledge and expertise with all participants throughout the event.

“I am pleased to see that an event held in Vilnius, Lithuania attracted the attention of world-leading experts. We had the opportunity to invite a member of the Animoca Brands team – Mohamed Ezeldin. Who participated in mentoring the attendees and was part of the judging team. He helped evaluate game concepts and tokenomics presented by the participants. It is incredible to see what level of talent these types of events can attract from all corners of the world.” shared Tadas Maurukas, the CEO of Blockchain Centre.

Organizers made sure the “Blockchain: Play & Gain” hackathon was not exclusive to the IT sector specialists. Engaging creative thinkers, game developers and designers to enter the NFT space. During the event, attendees could participate in one-on-one mentoring sessions with industry-leading experts. And, all participants had the opportunity to be part of a presentation about NFTs – made by Yat Siu, the chairman and co-founder of Animoca Brands.

The event concluded with 13 pitches from all 13 teams that developed their concepts in 48 hours. Judges awarded the 3 most economically viable, innovative and creative projects with additional 1000, 500 and 300 USDT prizes. Encouraging winners to deepen their knowledge about cryptocurrency and continue learning.

In addition to USDT prizes, the most promising teams had the opportunity to receive up to $350,000 together with €120,000 worth of services for future project development. Besides the financial assistance, teams would gain access to various consulting programs, accelerating team expertise and project development skills. 7 out of 13 participating teams developed projects worth considering for funding and mentorship opportunities. 3 out of those 7 teams were awarded special prizes.

The 1st place idea was pitched by the “E10” team, a PvP/PvE persistent online strategy game where the economy is based on NFT trading – Hexodus Realms. Judges were most impressed by how the team tackled inflation and pay-to-win aspects that often discourage people from participating in play-to-earn games.

2nd place winners were “Informed Games” who pitched a unique trivia-based game platform called “ANITRIVIA”. Based on the principle of decentralization, players can create content for a trivia game platform, in turn, earning NFTs by participating in the games ecosystem and organizing prize tournaments.

The 3rd place special prize was won by “It Works On My Machine” and their game concept – “The Multiverse Game”. The team proposed a game where players could enhance their in-game assets by importing previously existing NFT collections.
